Managing Staff Fundamentals - A Toolkit for Leadership

This one-day training course is aimed at managers, team leaders and supervisors, particularly those that are new to managing other people. For those with more experienced, this course acts as a great refresher or to fill in gaps for those that haven't previously had any training.

This course explores the skills, knowledge and qualities needed to gain a genuine and practical understanding of what's needed to lead people. Topics are drawn from leadership, management and supervision, covering everything from communications skills through to tackling difficult situations, with a focus on self-awareness and individuals leading individuals.

What's Covered

The following topics are covered over the course of the day:

  • My role as a Leader: Exploring the differences and similarity between leadership, management and supervision, and how we can draw from all three regardless of our role.
  • Leadership styles and qualities: A look at how different people lead in different ways, including managing benefits and challenges of each approach.
  • Leading a team: Through discussion and activities, we'll look at how teams form and grow, along with how we balance strengths and weaknesses of team members to manage workload alongside wellbeing and delivering outcomes.
  • Maintaining motivation: Considering three models, we'll tackle motivating team members from different angles to highlight the need to support staff both individually and holistically.
  • Difficult behaviour: Covering where difficult situations come from, with an overview of how to approach and tackle them, including where conflict arises in the team.
  • Our own behaviour, communication and culture: Going into the benefits of assertive behaviour for a leader, reflecting on our own approaches to situations, and leading the way towards a positive workplace culture for our team and beyond.
