Generative AI versus the Workplace

Half day | In person or online

This is a draft outline for a potential course we are considering and developing. If you are interested, please reach out as we would be keen to tailor the final version to your needs!

In late 2022, OpenAI released ChatGPT and challenged everyone’s ideas and expectations around how computers could interact with language and communication. Now we are well and truly inside the “AI boom” and generative AI has crept into workplaces across all industries, seemingly generating high quality, original text, images and even videos intelligently in response to our requests.

Alongside the novel and clever features we see, this has brought with it unknowns, including worries that the sudden disruptive technology will replace jobs and concerns that the quality is so good that it will be impossible to identify AI generated content. Further, many are seeing opportunities to embrace new tools to streamline and improve what they do, enabling more efficient workflows so they can focus more on putting more effort into personalised products, services and experiences.

What's Covered

This session follows a part training, part workshop format aimed to demystify what’s currently going on in the field of generative AI, while enabling discussion to build confidence and explore the direction of travel for the questions everyone is still figuring out. The session will focus on ChatGPT, as the currently the most well-known product, while touching on some of the others out there.

The exact content of the session will be dependent on the needs of the attendees, but would aim to explore the following topics (and would include some training material accordingly):

  • What generative AI can actually do: A quick exploration of how the large language models were created and a look at a range of potential uses, including some you might never have considered.
  • Technically issues with generative AI: A look at what AI hallucinations are, along with other potential issues. We’ll also explore how we manage these issues to allow generative AI to be a powerful tool rather than a high-risk, potential disaster every time.
  • The unanswered questions: We’ll briefly touch on how society is struggling, from morality to legality, to work out how to handle AI. This will be a brief exercise in caution and awareness rather than reaching conclusions.
  • Beyond ChatGPT: A quick look at some of the other products out there and how they are being used. We’ll have a quick look at some AI image generators and talk about how products like Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot are getting integrated into other products in an attempt to bring generative AI rapidly into the mainstream.
All course content can be adjusted for you or your organisation. The course descriptions offer an overview of topics and do not represent an exact format or structure. If you need us to focus on a particular area or would like is to include something we don't mention, just let us know and we'll do our best to make it work for you!
